An All-Time 1st?: Swiss Market Index Goes From 52-Week High To 52-Week Low In Same Week!

Another extraordinary week is in the books. Obviously the Swiss National Bank’s removal of its currency cap was the big news of the week. This sparked a number of epic moves in the financial markets, not the least of which was the historic jump in the Swiss Franc. However, our favorite data point of the week comes from Switzerland’s main stock market, the Swiss Market Index (hat tip to Kora Reddy, @paststat on Twitter for spotting it). In what may be an all-time first, the index unbelievably went from a 52-week high on Tuesday to a 52-week low on Friday. In our collective 60+ years of observing equity markets, we don’t recall any other stock market moving from a 52-week high to a 52-week low (or vice-versa) in the same week  Perhaps readers know of another case.

Have a great weekend.
